MICHELANGELO IN MARBLE
Private tour of Rome | 5 hours
Michelangelo Rome tour

Traverse the historic centre of Rome with your expert art historian guide and see what Michelangelo created from the blocks of marble he personally selected in Carrara. We reveal his architectural genius inside the "church bath" of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, constructed from the vast ruined frigadarium (cold pool) inside the ancient baths complex of Diocletian. Sistine chapel ceiling aside, Michelangelo is perhaps best known for designing the dome and drum of St. Peter's basilica. We ascend the former to get closer to the intricacies and scale of his work in the same moment. Two magnificent churches in Rome are where the Risen Christ and "Moses", the proposed tomb of Pope Julius II, have stood for five centuries, the latter being a complex and unfinished project that challenged the resolve of Michelangelo and ended in disappointment. We conclude on the magnificent Michelangelo Campidoglio, the heart of Roman art and archaeology with self-guided entrance to the Capitoline Museums.

BEAUTY OF BAROQUE
Private tour in Rome | 8 hours
Baroque Rome tour

17th century Baroque Rome was the period during which the Roman Catholic Church took artistic control in almost every respect. Exceptionally talented architects and painters became the standard bearers for Catholic propaganda, and in doing so, engendered the classical traditions of Rome which have come to define the city in modern times. Taking Carlo Maderno's lead, Da Cortona, Bernini, and Borromini, architects of an ecclesiastical revolution during the reigns of patron popes Urban VIII, Innocent X and Alexander VII, created epic works of grace and majesty towards the end of the Counter-Reformation. Their legacy dominates the most beautiful places in Rome due to the unbridled stylistic excess apparent in everything they touched upon. We visit the many churches, palaces, piazzas and fountains of Rome where the beauty of Baroque is most pronounced, with an academic focus on the magnificence of Roman Baroque.

REALM OF RAPHAEL
Private Rome tour | 5 hours
Essence of Renaissance Rome

A proficient painter in youth, Raphael honed his skills in Siena and Florence before flourishing in Rome. Born into the Court of Urbino with enviable ascribed status, Raphael, the great imitator, the greatest and most prolific High Renaissance master, was a painter of immense natural ability and he possessed an unquenchable desire to learn. Family background and social status opened doors to the works and workshops of his contemporaries which almost certainly helped him get acquainted with patrons and influential people. Having learned from his painter and courtier father Giovanni Santi, then becoming a master in the court aged 17 years, Raphael spent time in Siena with Pinturicchio, Città di Castello where he learned from Signorelli, and then Florence where he was inspired by Da Vinci, before moving to Rome. This private Rome tour visits many places that were touched by the genius of Raphael. The Vatican Museums, Villa Farnesina and Borghese Gallery are naturally included.

AESTHETICS OF PERFECTION
Private tour of Rome | 5 hours
Bernini Rome Baroque tour

The finest architecture in Rome can be attributed to one man, Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Baroque Rome, or more specifically Baroque architecture in Rome, brings three names to mind: Bernini, Borromini, Pietro da Cortona, fierce rivals who shaped Rome in the mid-17th century. Bernini in particular is remembered as the founding father of what is known today as the Roman Baroque urbanist tradition. As a masterful architect, Bernini was granted many papal commissions, however, he came under criticism from time to time. Pope Innocent X of the Pamphili papal family more or less fired him - his misconstrued design of bell towers for St. Peter's Basilica was deeply unpopular. They never saw the light of day. However, his work on St. Peter's Square, Scala Regia, Chair of St. Peter, and Baldachin restored his reputation. Bernini's periodic work in the Vatican spanned forty years. We visit the entirety of his works in Rome. His architecture, his fountains, and his sculptures in the Borghese Gallery.

EGYPTIAN OBELISKS OF ROME
Rome private tour | 6 hours
Sentinels of Antiquity

Egyptian obelisks of Rome private tour is one way to experience our beautiful city from a particularly unusual perspective and of course we were the very first tour operator in Rome to create an obelisks Rome tour back in 2012. Point to point movement across the historic centre of Rome, as Pope Sixtus V's town planning initiative intended when he relocated the main obelisks to sites in front of churches, is precisely how we conduct our tour. Each obelisk has a remarkable tale to tell and learning about each one is a great way to understand a great deal about the long history of Rome. The location of each obelisk, in the most picturesque parts of the city, makes this a genuine contender for the most intriguing Rome in a day tour ever devised. Upon conclusion you'll be directed to the Vatican Museums entrance for self-guided skip-the-line priority access. Therein you'll experience some of the most remarkable works of art ever created at first hand.

ARICCIAN MYTHS AND WINE
Private tour from Rome | 4 hours
Half day trip from Rome

Our first and greatest half day trip from Rome explores an ancient wooded land where the cult of Diana Nemorensis once flourished on the secluded shores of Nemi, the mystical crater lake known locally as "Diana's Mirror". Here, Emperor Caligula's pleasure barges cruised back and forth in antiquity. Remarkable views from this ancient and quiescent volcanic complex down to the lapping waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea await, but before the views, the walks and the rests, take a seat beside infamous "Ponte di Ariccia" and indulge in delicious crusty breads (pane casareccio) straight from the oven, sweet and savoury cheeses, olives, oils, and legendary local delicacy "porchetta d'Ariccia", washed down with several glasses of ruby red wine. Food, wine and tastings is a main theme on this half day excursion from Rome as we continue with stops for more wine, more porchetta, and in Nemi, tiny tasty strawberries for which the ancient town is adored.

WINE ROAD FROM ROME II
Wine tour from Rome | 3 hours
Ariccia wine tasting & lunch

Set off in style to Ariccia, the cradle of Roman mythology, nestled deep within the forested foothills of ancient Rome. Ancient, as described in The Golden Bough by Scottish anthropologist Sir James George Frazer; historic, as visited by Goethe, Byron, Stendahl et al. who embarked upon The Grand Tour. We set down in the heart of Ariccia at a quiet and respected osteria. In this area, volcanic red wines flow forth from rich and fertile land. While not a "classic" Italian red wine, Ariccian wine most certainly carries character and we'll pair the local nectar with sweet and spicy cheeses, warm crusty breads, olives, olive oils, and lavish portions of porchetta (pork roasted with rosemary). Spectacular views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Monte Cavo, the dormant volcano that towers over the town, will impress. Before the return train to Rome, we conclude with a restful stroll through landscaped nature, passing by relics of war as Ariccia was where long range railway guns bombed the Anzio beachhead in 1944.
