An increasing number of travellers are visiting Pompeii from Rome, Sorrento, and further afield. Indeed, touring Pompeii is fast becoming the #1 day trip from Rome and other Italian cities.

How many of these travellers see Herculaneum after Pompeii? The vast majority don't, so we have created this double-header excursion from Rome that takes in the two most important archaeological sites in Italy.

Pompeii, the "destroyed city", is more popular or at least better known than Herculaneum, the "preserved city". You'll see frescoes and mosaics in Herculaneum that are more colourful and in better condition than those in the villas of Pompeii.

Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii and it's possible to get a clear picture of its story in a few hours. Many travellers return to Pompeii time and time again, to further explore the expanse of ruins in search of undiscovered secrets and untold stories.

On Pompeii & Herculaneum: Two Tours, you get two fast bullet trains Rome - Naples - Rome, two guided tours with an archaeologist, and first entrance tickets to each site.

Your tour of Pompeii is followed by a Herculaneum tour via "Circumvesuviana", the railway line that hugs the slopes of Mount Vesuvius.

Pompeii & Herculaneum: Two Tours is a "full day" excursion of archaeological adventure touring and sightseeing by train. If you are staying in Rome and want to go further than the Vatican and Colosseum, we will carry you forth!

Rated 4.7 / 5 by Adam L on July 29th, 2019  We were very excited to be able to visit both sites from Rome and the day was expertly planned by Peter at Eternal Tours Rome. His archaeologist guides, Gino and Lucia, were brilliant. Herculaneum was the highlight for us, Pompeii just too big for a two hour tour. The Rome to Naples trains were super fast and modern. We knew that we had to take the local trains between Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples in between our tours and it was ok. Very satisfied with the overall experience.
